Otrivine Sinusitis Relief 0.1% Nasal Spray
Otrivine Sinusitis Relief 0.1% Nasal Spray provides relief from the symptoms of nasal congestion due to colds, sinusitis and allergies, including hayfever for up to 10 hours, getting to work in as little as 2 minutes. It is suitable for adults and children over 12 years and contains the active ingredient xylometazoline hydrochloride which helps to open up and clear the nasal passages by reducing the excessive nasal secretions and returning the swollen blood vessels to their normal size.
Directions
Adults and children over 12 years of age:
- 1 spray in each nostril up to 3 times daily.
- Do not exceed the recommended dosage.
- Do not take decongestants for more than 7 days in a row. If your symptoms worsen or do not improve after 7 days please contact a doctor.
Ingredients
- Active Ingredient: Xylometazoline hydrochloride (0.1% w/v).
- Other Ingredients: Benzalkonium chloride, sodium phosphate, disodium edetate, sodium acid phosphate, sodium chloride, sorbitol, hypromellose and purified water.
Cautions
- Like other products for the relief of blocked nose, Otrivine may give rise to sleep disturbances, dizziness, tremor in very sensitive patients. Consult your doctor if such signs prove troublesome.
- Do not take decongestants for more than 7 days in a row. Prolonged or excessive use may cause stuffiness to return or worsen.
- Otrivine contains benzalkonium chloride which may cause nasal irritation.
Do not use Otrivine Sinusitis Relief 0.1% Nasal Spray if you:
- Are allergic to xylometazoline hydrochloride or any of the other ingredients in the spray.
- Have had recent neurosurgery.
- Are under 12 years old.
- Have narrow angle glaucoma.
- Have chronic nasal inflammation with very dry nasal passages (rhinitis sicca or atrophic rhinitis).
- Have an enlarged prostate gland.
- Have a rare tumour of the adrenal gland that produces high amounts of adrenaline and noradrenaline (phaeochromocytoma).
- Are taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or have stopped taking them in the last 14 days.
Talk to your doctor before using Otrivine Sinusitis Relief 0.1% Nasal Spray if you:
- Have heart or circulatory disease (e.g. long QT syndrome).
- Have an overactive thyroid gland (hyperthyroidism).
- Have diabetes mellitus.
- Have hypotension.
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Are taking tri and tetra-cyclic antidepressant treatment
- Are you are taking or have recently taken any medicines (especially monoamine oxidase inhibitors or other antidepressants) including those obtained without a prescription.
